Over 400 kids were signed up for the 5th American Jiu-Jitsu Cup, held at Independence High, in San Jose, Ca. Our team entered the competition with 17 students, bringing back home 15 medals. We had many first timers and although not everyone won, we're very proud of all their hard training leading up to the tournament.
Special props to 15 year old white belt, Stephanie Dominguez. She didn't have anyone in her division so she ended up getting 1st place. She wasn't satisfied about not having an opponent to compete against so she decided to enter the boys 15 yr. old division who were also 2 belt ranks higher than hers. And despite her losing, she still gave one of them a run for his money by almost getting an armbar submission. She left her coaches and parents so proud for such display of heart, courage and talent despite having very little experience. She showed she'll be a force to be reckoned with!!
Final Team Results: Dalia G.- Gold medal, Jeremy V.- Gold, Kristopher T.- Silver, Preston C.- Silver, Edgar B.- Silver, Adrian H. - Silver, Johnny M. - Silver, Antonio G. - Bronze, Brandon F. - Bronze, Joaquin G. - Bronze, Riley B. - Bronze and Tiger B. - Bronze. Regardless of the result, congrats all competitors for stepping up!
